This is a circular Sangerism design called Plasmid DNA circle. Plasmids are small (a few thousand bases long) circular pieces of DNA derived from bacteria. They often contain genes that help in survival, such antibiotic resistance and can be transferred between bacterial cells. They are also really useful in molecular biology labs. We can manipulate them to add in genes of interest, make huge numbers of copies of them and then put them into other cells to study gene function.
